A POSSIBILIDADE DA CRENÇA CRISTÃ COMO CONHECIMENTO

Abstract

This article has the central objective of describing the warranted as criterion for the foundation of rationality of the Christian belief in the Alvin Plantinga's philosophy. Following this perspective, the text defends the relevance of the theme for the epistemology of religion and describes how Plantinga designs his evaluative model which, in turn, is assumed as a condition of possibility so that the universal contents of Christian belief can be characterized as a form of knowledge and not simply as vulgar religious superstition. In the first topic, we present the two sets of objections to Christian belief treated by Plantinga, of which the criticisms made by Freud and Marx stand out with a greater degree of relevance. In the second topic, we describe the fundamental elements of the A/C Model, presented by Plantinga as an epistemic system under which a belief is endorsed and, therefore, becomes knowledge. Finally, in the third topic, we deal with the extension of the A/C Model to the universal contents of Christian belief and we analyze to what extent, according to the philosopher, it is possible to defend that these same contents are epistemically endorsed. We believe that the analyzes proposed by Plantinga contribute to deepening the understanding of Christian belief in such a way as to rescue the essence of Christianity's own way of substantiating faith, which is the search for truth.
