Abstract

The central aim of this paper is to present, in a concise way, is to present, in a concise way, the dilemma faced in the search for cultural hermeneutic translatability and theological inculturation in African peoples and cultures. To this end, a brief historical review of the subjectivisation and systematisation of African theological thought is drawn up, highlighting its origins and the epistemic reasons for its development. Then the question of cultural hermeneutic translatability and the dilemma of theological inculturation in the proclamation of the kerygma among African peoples and cultures is addressed, underlining the importance of openness to dialogue with the culture, religiosity, and worldview of the people. Finally, some contemporary perspectives of African Theology for a missionary ekklesia in Africa are presented, emphasising the role that African theologians have played in the plea for peace, social justice, and the fundamental rights of the suffering people.
