O SENTIMENTO DE HUMANIDADE NA FILOSOFIA MORAL DE DAVID HUME

Abstract

The present text aims to shed light on the feeling of humanity that runs through the moral texts of the Scottish philosopher David Hume. Despite the readings that show a disruptive Hume and without the intention of presenting a constructive epistemology and moral theory, I intend to show some reflections that can allow us to understand the Humean work from a notion of shared human nature, as well as a defender of a universalist morality based on sensitivity. In this sense, we will develop at the beginning of the text the idea that Hume's self-declared skepticism, which demands a methodological change in philosophy in general, is compatible with an empiricist moral theory. In a second moment, we will present the notion of taste standard that is at the base of our moral and aesthetic judgments. Finally, it is intended to show the mechanisms of sympathy and the feeling of humanity that unites us as a species and allows the creation of a common moral language.
